Positive Future Talk

In creating the change we desire it is important that we focus our language on what we want to have happen, not what we want to stop doing. Think of a kindergarten teacher, they would not say “stop running”. Parents do that but not kindergarten teachers. They say “Walk”! It is as though the children just joined the army. They switch to nearly a march instantly. Talk about what you want to have happen not what we want others to stop doing. Whether we are speaking or writing…watch the can’t, won’t, don’t, shouldn’t, couldn’t, wouldn’t in our language and see how we can change it to can, will, do, should, could, and would.

Watch the not’s and n’ts. Re-write it or rephrase it in a positive way to get cooperation or people moving a positive direction. Change happens faster!
